Gun Charges

In the 25+ years that I have been a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, I have seen our justice system impose increasingly harsh penalties on individuals facing gun charges. Weapons and gun charges must be taken very seriously, because your liberty, your freedom and your right to bear arms could be on the line.

Gun Laws Are Confusing

The great majority of gun owners are good, law-abiding people. So are many people arrested for gun charges. Laws regarding guns and other weapons vary from state to state, and it can be hard to know what is legal and what is not. A weapon that is legal to purchase or own in one state may be illegal if you bring it into California. Many people have found themselves facing gun charges for what was truly an innocent mistake.

Other times, a person with a conviction in his past, maybe a twenty-year-old drug charge, comes to the attention of the police for a minor matter and is shocked to find himself charged as an “Ex-Felon with a Firearm, or other Weapon”. Even hunters or sportmen can find themselves in this kind of situation.

I Know How to Fight Your Gun CHarge

I examine all the evidence against my client to find out if it was legally obtained. I look at the client’s background and get character references from friends and family, so the judge or jury knows you’re a real person, not just a case number, and not just a person facing charges.

If you have prior criminal convictions, I show the court how you have changed, and argue that your past mistakes shouldn’t be held against you anymore. I can try to have your old criminal record erased. I may be able to persuade the judge to change old felonies into misdemeanors, resulting in lesser sentences, especially in Three Strikes cases. I make sure the judge knows about any special circumstances in your case that could lead to the charges being dismissed or reduced.
